Batteries charged

My camera batteries are charged and here is a picture of my first large block.

I needleturn applique.

I love all of the animals and my favourite is the pink pony.

Yes Mary it could easily be a slippery slide but luckily for me the local quilt shop is a 45 minute drive ,but it is nice to know the Kaffe fabric is in the shop.

Layout of background fabrics

I just thought I should let you know that the layout plan for the background fabrics was part of the class with Kim so not my idea, just wanted to make it clear as to give credit to the right person.

When reading the comments some of you have made I was worried that you had thought it was my idea.
Anyway back to stitching..... as I am having a small window in my longarm quilting so am using the time for me..

Center Heart Tongues

So AFTER Monica AND Lina posted I got my Ar** in gear and cut out the tongues for the center heart

And laid them out....

And at 10:30pm got the BRILLIANT idea that i had GIANT RICK RACK that could go in the seam on this block!

What do you think?

I also positioned the peach/teal dots around the square JUST SO (very unlike me).. and I decided all the stems will be in the fabric I did the teal inner heart... I think I have enough!

So Monica... Tag.. YOUR IT!

oh yeah.... Brenda stopped by.... I told her SHE had to join the blog... she took home a big bag of fabric for her heart quilt... the race is on!

ps... Liza I am going to try your front basting on a test piece.. I REALLY like that... showed Brenda.... just so you get in on the action!

another First Time Blogger

Hello to everyone.
I have been enjoying reading all of the messages and comments and seeing all of the progress.
I have finished my first block and decided I wanted to join in the journey.
Up until this afternoon I have never seen Kaffe fabrics. I decided after lunch to take a drive to local quilt shop and to my surprise on the shelf were five Kaffe fabrics. Needless to say I came out with a five fabrics. I will be working these five new prints in with fabrics from my stash to make Roseville.
I am charging my camera batteries so I can post a photo .
Looking forward to pictures everyone's progress photos and all of the interesting messages and comments.

This will be my 5th block finished as soon as I can decide which flower to use...

so should it be yellow or purple????

I will add the circles later when I have more blocks finished.
My tip for this block is to baste and applique one row of the flowers on the top at a time
they are so close together its hard to work with when you have all the rows of petals basted down. I may take out the one on the right where I had them all basted down as I appliqued not as happy with it but in the scheme of the quilt will I be ok with it after I have more blocks done?

hand or machine?

How many are doing Kim's quilts by hand? What's recommended for these quilts? I enjoy hand work; I used to do needle-turn but it hurts my hands so I've started using the starch method. It's making me crazy here-there are not a lot of places that sell Kaffe's fabrics!

While I'm waiting..

No pattern yet. I orderd the fabric pack, too. Not sure why except one can't have too much Kaffe sitting around. So i will post a pic of my all Kaffe DWR. Background is the grey clover. I started this at Asilomar in a Becky Goldsmith independent study class. It was the second Asilomar class I've had from Becky. The first was 5 years ago exactly. That's where I learned to applique. One week with her and needle turn is not scary at all. Finger pressing is the key, I think.

Anyhoo, BG has made a couple of DWR and between her hints and Marti Michell templates, so far so good. So, until I get my own blog back up, here is my DWR in progress and the daughter & son-in law who will receive it...one of these days. The wedding was on August 7th.

I promise no more off topic posts, but there was Kaffe involved...
